Marvelous Designer Clothes
Marvelous Designer (MD) is a popular 3D cloth modeling tool.
This tutorial shows the workflow of MD-Clothy3D-UE5:
- export a cloth from MD, and import it to Cloth Convertor
- convert a MD thin and thick cloth together to an interchangeable cloth
- merge points to stitch tears
Export and Import
You are recommended to export a cloth, and its avatar if the avatar exists, to a fbx file.
The following is the selectable options during exporting:
Option | Single Object | Multi Object |
---|---|---|
Thin | Weld, Un-Weld | Un-Weld |
Thick | Un-Weld | Un-Weld |
Recommendations:
-
Recommended: Multi Object (Thin or Thick)
import the two exported fbx files (Thin and Thick) using the "No Change" parameter setting, so that these two models are synchronized.
-
Accepted: Single Object (Thin or Thick) and un-weld
import the two exported fbx files (Thin and Thick) using the "No Change" parameter setting, so that these two models are synchronized.
-
Unrecommended: Single Object (Thin) and Weld
import the exported fbx file using the "Default" parameter setting.
When importing the fbx file, always import it as a static model.
If the avatar imported does not fit the cloth, export the avatar from MD to an obj file with meter as system unit, and import the avatar from the obj file.
This tutorial uses the Panel Cloth Example Files (5.4) which can be freely downloaded from its website.
